Saraiki Language Day observances celebrate and advocate for the سرائیکی زبان — the mother tongue of tens of millions of people in Pakistan.
How the Language is Celebrated
Language-focused events are held by literary societies, universities and activists at several points in the year: around International Mother Language Day (21 February), when Saraiki speakers join worldwide observances for mother tongues; on Saraiki Culture Day (6 March), when the language is celebrated alongside the Ajrak; and at literary conferences honouring writers such as Khwaja Ghulam Farid. Activities include seminars on Saraiki linguistics and orthography, book launches, recitals and campaigns for the language’s inclusion in education and media.
The Language at a Glance
