Poetry is the beating heart of the Waseeb, and Saraiki poetry festivals — mushairas, Farid conferences and literary melas — are held across the region throughout the year.

The Mushaira Tradition

A mushaira is a gathering where poets recite before a live audience that responds verse by verse — an art form the Saraiki region has raised to a passion. The largest gatherings honour Khwaja Ghulam Farid, whose kafis remain the gold standard of Saraiki verse; literary conferences and recitals are held at his urs at Kot Mithan and in cities across the belt. Living legends such as Shakir Shuja Abadi draw enormous crowds whenever they appear.

Where to Experience Saraiki Poetry

Arts councils in ملتان تے بہاولپور, universities, press clubs and the annual Culture Day celebrations all host recitals. Our Saraiki poetry & literature page introduces the major poets and forms.
