Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat

Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat (born 21 July 1952) is a Pakistani politician from Jhang and a former Federal Minister of Interior. He is regarded as the Sajjada Nashin (spiritual successor) of the shrine of Pir Shah Jewna in Jhang District, a position that has shaped his standing in local politics.

Hayat was educated at Forman Christian College, Lahore, and later earned a master’s degree in law and a diploma in business administration from King’s College London. He was first elected to the National Assembly of Pakistan in 1977 and was appointed to the Pakistan Peoples Party’s Central Executive Committee in 1979. He was re-elected to the National Assembly in 1988, 1990 and 1993, serving as Federal Minister of Commerce from 1988 to 1990.

Hayat was re-elected to the National Assembly on a PPP ticket in 2002 and was appointed Federal Minister of Interior, serving until 2004. He later moved to the PML-Q and was re-elected to the National Assembly in 2008. He also served as President of the Pakistan Football Federation from 2003 to 2017.

Over his career, Hayat has been associated with several political parties, including the PPP, PML-Q, PML-N and, most recently, the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan.
