From the kafi to the dhol, Saraiki folk music festivals<\/strong> bring the sounds of the Waseeb to stages across Pakistan.<\/p>\n

The Music of the Waseeb<\/h2>\n

\u0633\u0631\u0627\u0626\u06cc\u06a9\u06cc \u0644\u0648\u06a9 \u0645\u0648\u0633\u06cc\u0642\u06cc<\/a> centres on the kafi — the Sufi lyric perfected by Khwaja Ghulam Farid — sung to instruments like the dhol, alghoza (double flute), iktara, chimta and harmonium. Legendary voices include \u067e\u0679\u06be\u0627\u0646\u06d2 \u062e\u0627\u0646<\/strong>, Surraiya Multanikar<\/strong> \u062a\u06d2 Attaullah Khan Esakhelvi<\/strong>, whose songs carried the language across the country.<\/p>\n

Where the Music Plays<\/h2>\n

Folk music takes the stage at cultural nights of the \u0686\u0648\u0644\u0633\u062a\u0627\u0646 \u0635\u062d\u0631\u0627\u0626\u06cc \u0645\u06cc\u0644\u06c1<\/a>, at urs gatherings where qawwali and kafi are sung through the night, at arts-council concerts in \u0645\u0644\u062a\u0627\u0646<\/a> \u062a\u06d2 \u0628\u06c1\u0627\u0648\u0644\u067e\u0648\u0631<\/a>, at national folk showcases such as Lok Virsa’s festivals in Islamabad, and on every stage of \u0633\u0631\u0627\u0626\u06cc\u06a9\u06cc \u062b\u0642\u0627\u0641\u062a \u068f\u06cc\u06c1\u0627\u0691<\/a>. Jhoomar dance and the dhol are inseparable from these performances.<\/p>\n
