Sardar Dost Muhammad Mazari

Former Deputy Speaker, Provincial Assembly of Punjab

Awam Pakistan (AP) Rajanpur

Biography

Sardar Dost Muhammad Mazari (born 15 August 1980) is a Pakistani politician from Rajanpur who served as Deputy Speaker of the Provincial Assembly of Punjab from 2018 to 2022. He belongs to the Mazari Baloch tribe and is a grandson of Balakh Sher Mazari, who served as caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan in 1993.

Mazari graduated from the University of Karachi in 2002. He was elected to the National Assembly of Pakistan from NA-175 Rajanpur-II on a Pakistan Peoples Party ticket in 2008, later serving as Parliamentary Secretary for Water and Power and, from 2012, as Minister of State for Communications.

After an unsuccessful bid for the National Assembly in 2013, Mazari was elected to the Provincial Assembly of Punjab from PP-297 Rajanpur-V on a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf ticket in 2018 and was elected Deputy Speaker of the Punjab Assembly. He was removed from that post via a no-confidence motion in July 2022 amid the constitutional crisis that unfolded in Punjab’s provincial government that year.

In May 2023, Mazari joined the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz). He was defeated in the 2024 general election by a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-backed independent candidate in Rajanpur.
